NCMS, Inc. began as a program of North Capitol Neighborhood Development, Inc., but formed a separate legal entity in September 2003 and received its 501(c)3 tax-exempt status in July 2004. The NCMS, Inc. service area includes the North Capitol Street business corridor between New York and Rhode Island Avenues, and the Bloomingdale Business District at Rhode Island Avenue and First Street, NW.
NCMS, Inc. follows the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Main Street approach to economic revitalization, which focuses on incremental change and self-help, among other things. As NCMS, Inc.’s organizational capacity expands, additional committees will be established.
